I have been looking at some second hand R9 280'x online and was wondering if a second hand GPU is safe to buy and what your opinion on them are.
Here are a few links to some of the GPUS for sale

I live in new zealand so this is like the only website to buy second hand stuff.
I think its about another hundred dollars for a new one, is it worth it?

I never recommend buying used. Though it is a nice way to cut down on costs, you never know how the card was treated, or if it even still runs.
Some are nearly new, and run almost like new, and will never break down.
Others wont boot, will artifact, or overheat.

There is a fairly good chance that they were used for mining, which is also never good for the cards.

I actually bought a Sapphire R9 280x Dual-X last week. It was used from a computer store on ebay. I just received my new PSU this morning and I've been running Furmurk for 6 hours straight now and the card is in very good shape performance wise and visually. Temps never went over 72C.

I suggest emailing the seller and asking for the serial number and ask why it's being sold and if it was used for mining. If you really want to be safe, write down the serial number and call the manufacturer and ask if it has been reported stolen.
Main thing to look for when buying a used GPU is a seller with a lot of good feedback and make sure they are a 100% feedback seller. Also make sure it comes in the original box, also preferably comes with accessories. The third listing looks like it has a really honest description.

See if you can find any other listings, when I search R9 280x with no filters, it comes up with no results.
