SO i have an onboard graphics card i use for my main display. I had an older ATI card in my pc before this one. When i tried to get it up and running with my new set up for use on the side (reference images, youtube, etc) i get the error that its not compatible with directx 9 or newer.

Is their any way i can force windows to use it to display the second screen anyway or will my win7hp just not even bother with it.

Okay to get this straight, you are using only onboard graphics or are you using multiple graphics cards?

Sometimes there is a setting in BIOS for this, but most of the time in my experience if you are trying to use two monitors with two GPUs, that just by plugging in the display into the appropriate GPU solves it.

If you are trying to use just integrated graphics to power two displays, make sure the graphics you have supports using two monitors at the same time. It might not.

If you just removed the old GPU you probably need to uninstall drivers if you haven't, and reinstalling Direct X cannot hurt.
