Are you running Windows 8.1 on your desktop? There are problems reported with Windows 8.1 update and the TL-WN adapters.

Sounds like you are connecting on the 5GHz band with your MAC and 2.5GHz band with the PC. Change the SSID of your router so that the 2.5 and 5 GHz bands have different SSIDs (i.e. INTERNET2.5 and INTERNET5.0).

Your router should have a setup page - any browser should be able to access it at 192.168.0.1 (some are 192.168.1.1). You will need the username/password to get into the setup.

On the wireless tab - it should have a field for SSID for the 2.5GHz radio and the 5.0GHz radio - change the name so that they are different (this way you can see which one you are connecting to).

I don't know why, but my laptop will default to the 2.5GHz connection if I have them the same. I changed them and now I set the 5GHz as the default connection.

You should be able to access it from either computer. Somewhere in the wireless setup it should give you the SSID options. You may have to go through a few screens to get to it. What make/model modem do you have?

Your modem isn't a dual-channel wireless N - so 2.5GHz is going to be the best connection. You might try a different channel on the wireless N to see if that improves the signal. You also might want to reposition the antenna on the PC to get a better signal.

The adapter you have for the pc is a low end single antenna wireless adapter - I would bet that Apple put a better wireless adapter in your Macbook....

You can try to put the antenna at different angles to see if that helps. When the antennas of the router and the PC are parallel, the greatest signal transfer is achieved. If they are at a 90 degree angle - it is considered the worst. A lot of people that have routers with 3 antennas will place one sticking straight up, another parallel to the ground and the last one at a 45 degree angle.
