My friend is looking for a gaming laptop to play games and do programming. He prefers something 15 inch. But wouldn't mind 17 inch. What the best around that price range?

Brand wise - stay away from HP and Dell - lots of problems and no help from them.

Go for Asus, MSI or Lenovo in that order.

eg MSI $1200 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Lenovo $1200 -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Either - go on price. The Y50 is also one of them I posted.

The lenovo y50 is very thin and light, it's also very good for its price. I'd vote for that one

The i5 is a duo core. Is that enough for gaming? Is it worth getting an i7 that is $80 more? Can the i5 handle alien isolation?
