So lately my room has been getting very warm and my best guess is that it is my PC. I currently just have the stock AMD CPU cooler on my 8350 however I think it's time for a better cooler. I don't want to go anywhere near water cooling because it scares me XD. I had a 212 Evo at first but didn't think it would fit in my case so I just stuck on the stock cooler. My case is the Corsair 300R ATX Mid Tower Case and my motherboard is the Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+. I want a small cooler that will keep my CPU cool. Any suggestions? Thanks.

The maximum cpu cooler height for your case is 170mm from the mount. The EVO would have fit easily, as all motherboards and cpus mount at the same height.

Both coolers are excellent, but the EVO for all its ability is still a budget cooler and the c14 will outperform it.

As with any cpu cooler, some thought must be given to airflow in the case. You won't need massive amounts, but a decent supply and exhaust is needed, no point in a good cpu cooler if it's going to push hot air through the heatsink. 1 or 2 fans top mount, and 1 or 2 intakes would be sufficient. If your 300r has a side fan mount, using that as an exhaust would be good too, with the c14. So 1 top, 1 side, 2x intakes, and you'll be good for cpu/gpu airflow.

The only problem is that I only have 3 chassis fan spots on my motherboard. Would I have to get one of those 10 Fan Port things? I was looking at them anyway cause cooling my PC is my priority right now.

Nope, no need for a fan controller. Use 2-way splitters that match your fans and mobo. 1 splitter for intakes, 1 for top exhaust and 1 for side/rear and all can run from either mobo bios, or even better, Asus suite has an excellent fan control software, that's very easy to use.
