Here is the situation:
There are SEVERAL PCs in the house - 3 desktops, 5+ laptops, and at least 5 smartphones (Android 2.1 and up to Kitkat.)
A few of the laptops and 2 desktops are running Windows XP Home Premium up to Professional SP3.
One desktop is running and all but 2 of the laptops are running Windows 7 Home Premium to Professional to Ultimate (My dell Studio being the Ultimate.)
There is an older, dual antenna, Linksys WRT54G router upstairs connected via WAN port to the home DSL (pittiful) network device.
The Windows XP systems throughout the house are able to connect and maintain a wireless connection with full Internet connectivity at all times. Many brands of wireless NICs are in play with the XP systems.
The Windows 7 systems, however, do not maintain a constant connection to the Internet even though the connection to the router itself - signal wise - is moderate to strong (3-5 bars depending on location and system) and consistent.
The smartphones, specifically MY Samsung Galaxy S4, do not do well to maintain an Internet connection regardless of how close or distant (within reason) to the router - but I don't believe it's a signal issue.
My QUESTION is:
I have a Netgear WNR1000v2 that I brought to the house with me that prior to moving I had no problems at all with being connected with however many devices, regardless of operating system OR type of device.
Would I be able to use this router as an alternate connection to the other router - splitting up the connections directly to the other router - without running an ethernet cable to the Linksys upstairs? I have great signal directly below the other router in the far end of the great room in the basement, and I have very good signal from the currently non-connected Netgear router almost line of sight from my physical location in the house. It would be ideal to be able to connect the XP systems to the router upstairs, and load balance the Windows 7 devices to the router downstairs. The mobile devices would just connect to my router as well since they do very little actual "work."
Please help, this is getting highly frustrating!
Thanks,
Zach
