hello, i would just like to have your opinions, I'm planning on getting a new 2TB hard drive but can't decide on which one to choose from

1. WD My Book 2TB Desktop Storage USB 3.0, Back Up & Security For PC & Mac
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=870

2. WD Green 2TB Intelli Power 64MB Cache SATA 6Gb/s 3.5 WD Green 3TB Intelli Power 64MB Cache SATA 6Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (Western Digital)
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=780

If i plan to get the internal 2TB green drive I'm planning on putting it on an external enclosure probably astone enclosure since thats the only one available at my place

or should i just get the External 2TB my book? so i should'n't worry about enclosure.. i don't plan on using the backup software of WD since i read some bad reviews about it

are the 2tb my book any good drive?

i only plan to use the drives for backing/transferring my videos files and such, probably just be using it maybe 2-3 times a month :)

Personally I would go with buying an internal hard drive and putting that inside your own enclosure, rather than buying a factory-built external hard drive.

The reason being that if a factory-built one starts giving you problems caused by a faulty bridge-chip inside the enclosure, you won't be able to extract the drive and put it in a different enclosure because the drive unit will very likely have proprietary connectors on it.

You won't have that problem if you make up your own external drive using a standard internal hard drive and a third-party enclosure.

Hi there mike-rmb,

I would say that both options are good ones. So, it depends on you, whether you want to get an all-in-one solution or you want to get the HDD and the enclosure separately. I, personally, would have picked up the My Book just because is designed to be used as an external hard drive.

You should also take into consideration what Phillip Corcoran mentioned. Furthermore, the WD MyBook series have both hardware and software base encryption in order to prevent unauthorized data access. So, if you take the drive out of the enclosure, you will not be able to retrieve your data.

Hope this will help,
