Do not buy a reference cooler r9 290 - they are noisy, hot and buggy. See early reviews. People were puttinmg their own coolers on them to get them to work properly eg http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-290-revie...

Think I might have to do that at some point as I purchased mine of Ebay and its on the way. Is it a big job fitting this fan and will the card run as it should after fitting it?

Not worried about noise just the temperature? I have a Zalman Z11 case with five fans and a Asus Z97-A Broad I can control the fan speed should I put them to max? Should I install more case fans any recommendations?

I have a evo 212 CPU cooler

Thanks for the advice

Try it out and see how how it gets. Get one of those coolers. They're pretty easy to fit. read up about fitting them eg usually also need to get VRM heatsinks.

Motherboard does not control graphics card fans. Use MSI Afterburner software (free)
