I have recently been experiencing very bad screen tearing in most games like CS:GO and BF4. I do not want to enable Vsync of any sort. I have reseated the GPU and reinstalled all drivers. I am running Nvidia driver 340.52. Is this a hardware problem or software? My monitor is 60 hz.

What settings do you run BF4 on? Also what fps do you get on CS:GO and BF4? You may need to put Vsync on. I doubt it's the software at all. I think you may be playing at really high FPS because your monitor is 60 hz which means if you're playing at 120 fps (I think) you will get screen tearing.

I get high fps but it was never this bad before, it only got worse recently. I can put up with screen tearing, but this is not normal.

Try turning on Video sync in the Nvidia control panel, not in the game. That should force it on. NOTE: You may wish to do this in "Program Settings" for BF4 under "Manage 3D Settings" as opposed to the global settings.
