If its purely for gaming get the i5 because it has better single core performance. Also, there are newer and cheaper , more feature packed boards available for the i5 such as the Z97 and H97 platform. However, if you want a good budget cpu which has better all round performance get the 6300. I use it myself and I am very happy with it. Both should be fine with r9 290 but if you need to overclock them then the 6300 will be easier to do since its unlocked.

none of the cpu would bottleneck that gpu

Between these two would be the 8320. For the price I would say it's great. Between those two cpus you've mentioned, the question is are you willing to overclock? Simple as that. If yes, go to Fx 6300(it ocs like a champ btw).If no, go with the i5.
Plus: with the graphics card you have, you'll be happy eitherway.
