So, I think I'm being a little dense because I'm having trouble making sense of the advice I've seen from Googling. So, I'll just explain my situation and ask if it's possible.

My laptop has a HDMI and DisplayPort 1.2 output port. I found a monitor in my house that either uses VGA or DVI-D with HDCP. I'm a little confused about the digital and analog explanations I've read online, so I'll just ask this - is it possible for me to purchase a converter/adapter so I can use the monitor with my laptop? (Also, if you have a link to a good product I can order from Amazon or something, that'd be great too ^_^ )

HDMI has no Analog output, so for that conversion. you would need an active adapter.(powered)

There are exceptions, with a few business laptops, that have added it, but it is not in the spec.

I'll have to look it up, but I think Display port, might have VGA, and only need a passive adapter.
Not sure though

"It's backwards compatible with adapters." It's a fail wikipedia statement if you ask me. That's like saying everything is backwards compatible with everything. If you read more it does say active adapter. Dvi-i is the only connection that can use a passive adapter to vga as it's the only one with an analog signal. But let's forget about vga since it has dvi. Use hdmi or dp to dvi.
