Hey guys.

So I recently bought a new laptop, really pleased with everything about it except the wireless internet is horribly slow compared to my last laptop. So I decided to run various internet speed tests online on both my laptops, while they were sitting next to each other. They both came up with exactly the same ping each time. However on download speeds, my old laptop got in the region of 8-12Mbps compared to the 1-2Mpbs on my new laptop. Signal strength is the same in both laptops. So I'm assuming the problem is confined to my new laptop, it's not an issue with the router.

What could be causing this? I've got any firewalls/anti-virus/Windows Defender turned off on both laptops. Could it be the wireless card in the new laptop? Or perhaps some setting I need to change on the ISP page, some ports opened perhaps? (Using Win 8.1 on new laptop, Win 7 on old)

My wireless card driver is up to date on the new laptop, and it's a "Realtek RTL8723BE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC" if that means anything to anyone. I've fiddled with the settings in my wireless card, but nothing seems to help.

Any ideas what the problem is? Any help appreciated.

Hello,
I have that the same situation on brand new laptop with rtl8723be. I compared PC (connected by cable) and another laptop (connected by wifi to the same tp-link router) and internet speed on both computer is OK, but on this brand new hp laptop the internet is too slow. I tried drivers from many sites, but it didnt help.
Did you solve a problem?
