I am trying to find a new graphics card to help with editing. I recently got my system with a i5-4690k and rendering is already much better compared to the old i7 in my laptop (and I know it isnt a i7. Recording and rendering is great for me as it is and I didnt want to fork out the extra 100$ on the cpu)

Anyway, I was looking at a 780/780ti because of their crazy amount of cuda cores, but is it really required? A GTX 770 or 760 would be great for the gaming aspect (especially the 770) but does the drop in CUDA cores really effect my performance that much?

EDIT: I use adobe AE and Premiere.

I think that you should get a GTX 770, GTX 780 and ti are just not an must-have for editing, not worth it :)  And the drop in CUDA cores will be feelable a bit,but it's nothing to worry about.

honestly i think you should look at program benchmarks as some older gpus may work better in a certain game or program such as the 760 vs 770. I would suggest a r9 290 but with a non-reverance cooler design or maybe a 770 with any cooler. If you want to go cheaper, you can get a 7970 on ebay now for $170 can not put in british pound price cuz I am currently using a us keyboard so 140 quid :)
