If the year is different on two of the same brand of ram cause them to not work?

I just bought two more sticks of RAM for my computer. They are the same brand as my old two which is G.Skill RIPJAWS X 4gb. The only difference between the two is that two are from 2012 and the other two new ones are from 2014.

When I put the two 2012 cards in, my computer boots up no problem.
When I put the two 2014 cards in, my computer boots up no problem.
When I put all four cards in, my mother board shows a memory error and wont boot up.
When I put in one 2012 card and one 2014 card, the mother board shows a memory error and wont boot up.

I dont know why its doing this. The only thing I thought is that the old cards and the new cards dont work together because of the year difference?

Spooky's got the right approach, what mobo and CPU?? Start w/ the DRAM maybe + 0.06 then the MC (memory controller) voltage about the same if Intel - if it's AMD prob want to start at 1.2 (that's the CPU/NB voltage on most AMDs) Intel uses a variety of names and doesn't near as much voltage to the MC as theirs are much stronger (hence need to know mobo and CPU for better estimates)
That happens at times when mixing memory kits. Each kit is tested to make sure that the sticks work with each other. Did you have the exact same memory kit model? Usually GSkill is pretty good with their sticks working with each other.

EDIT:
Try upping the memory voltage some and maybe the CPU memory controller voltage too if that doesn't work.
