I have a GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard.

And a Cooler Master GX - 650W Power Supply with 80 PLUS Bronze Certification.

The motherboard has a 1 x 8-pin ATX 12V power connector. The power supplies has a
1 x 4+4-Pin ATX/EPS 12V connector. Is there a way to make this work? I am building a new computer with my wife and I had a spare power supplies that I was hoping would work.

The big problem is it seems the 1x 4+4- pin only has one set that will fit and the other does not fit due to the shape being all half square shaped and not half square/full square connections.

First link is the motherboard and the next one is the power supply.

Solution
4+4 means that you can use the PSU either on a motherboard that has an 8-pin connector for the CPU or on motherboards that have 4-pin connector for the CPU(older motherboards).
In other words,it will work 110%.

Thank you for your quick response. We are new to this and definitely appreciate it. So it seems that i can only get the one 4 pin connector to fit and the other will not so is it ok to only have 1 4 pin connector hooked up.
