Best AMD CPU for CPU Intensive Games?

Not sure if that is the right way to phrase that question, but it seems pretty straight forward. I play a lot of games like Paradox Games and Civilization 5, and I am wondering what AMD CPU will benefit me the most. I already have a computer, with a 280x and an AMD only motherboard, so Intel is not an option.
(Or if there is another solution, such as more ram [currently 8 gigs] please let me know)

Edit: My current CPU is an fx8350 and it is very slow

FX 8350 for newer properly threaded games; First person shooters prolly. For strategy type games the higher Ghz less cores tends to work better with less dips etc. An FX 6300 could potentially clock higher per core (at 95W) and could be better for those types of games, and maybe even some of the AAA titles too.

I believe I messed up when I built my computer (it was my first time) and did something wrong, for it overheats very quickly when Over Clocking.
