I have asked an assortment of people to help diagnose this issue, but no one has narrowed it down for me. The problem is this: after a while of playing games, my display will produce a "No Signal" sign, the audio to my headphones will stutter, and I am forced to do a hard reset. I can play Skyrim for 5 hours, then switch to Goat Simulator and it will crash. I can start up Borderlands 2 and it will crash on me in 20 minutes. What the hell am I doing wrong here?

I'm running an XFX R9 280X, 16GBs of Corsair Vengeance, an Intel i7-3770K, a Gigabyte z77-UD3H mobo, and a 1000W EVGA 80+ Platinum PSU. I was originally running a 550W, and most people I spoke with seemed to be under the impression that it simply wasn't enough power for my GPU. I just bought this 1000W and I'm still getting the same issues.

I have also updated the drivers, ran Memtest86, tested the GPU on another system, and checked the temperatures. At this point I'm assuming it's the motherboard, but I wanted some more opinions on the issue as I'm already out $200 for the new PSU.

Thank you in advance,

Tank

Yes, I've checked the temps and they've all been running pretty cool under load. Around 60° - 65° C.

Hi Tank,

I think you went a bit overboard with the PSU as a 750W should have been enough. Anyways it will at least be more future proof. I would try a few more things: Take out half of your RAM, and see if it crashes. If it does swap to your other half of the RAM. Thus eliminating the RAM question. Also dont overclock your RAM, run it at 1333 or maybe 1600. Dont trust Memtest. I had a motherboard once that would just simply not cooperate with a 560Ti Hawk that I had at the time, and all components were fine but they were not compatible in that build. Bf3 would crash after a while no matter what I did, but the card worked in another computer fine. Maybe put your Motherboard up for sale and get a new one, if the buyer complains that there is something wrong, then refund him if not its good. Perhaps a windows re-install might also help (8.1 if you have it). Re install might save you from having to buy stuff.

gaborbarla,

Thank you for the speedy reply. I'll give all of that a shot. I haven't overclocked anything; everything is running stock. I suppose I should have mentioned that the motherboard was not new when I bought it. I got it for half of the "new" price on eBay. It was previously used, but I suppose I shouldn't have skimped on such a crucial part of the PC. I'll give all of those ideas a shot tonight. Thanks for your help.

Yes that is interesting perhaps the board has a fault. There is no econimical way to track those problems and fix them, boards normally have to get replaced. Please let us know what was the outcome.

gaborbarla,

For the moment, I'm waiting on my next paycheck to buy a motherboard. The RAM was not faulty and the reinstall of Windows did not help. I did, however, turn off the Aero theme I was running and that seemed to help tremendously. I'll let you know if everything works out with the mobo. Thanks again,

Tank

To anyone still wondering what the answer is: I went out and bought brand new motherboard and did a complete reinstall of Windows to no avail. I'm still having the same issues. I'm just going to go ahead and assume it's the card. Since XFX authorized the RMA, I'll ship it out tomorrow and see what happens when I get it back.

Thanks for everyone's help on this.
