Excuse me guys,
i was really hoping to get some help for my step daughters ipod touch fith gen.

Its stuck on a black screen, it wont boot into recovery mode itunes logo.
Even though itunes recognizes it, (itunes has detected a device in recovery mode)
it restores but screen remains black/dead....IPOD feels hot too..
could it be a dead screen..?

please excuse my NOOBnes.
a little help would be highly appreciated.

Is the iPod on, or off?

Try plugging it in to another computer with iTunes and see what happens.

You may have to send it in, I just had to send mine in today for a home button repair. They may give me a new one. No worries, it's backed up.

it gets HOT when plugged in, iTunes recognizes the ipod and attempts to restore it,
after restoring it still remains in a BLACK SCREEN..

the year warranty expired,so taking it in to apple might be pricey..

Heh. This is an interesting one. So it recognizes the iPod, it tries to restore, and does. It feels hot. When you're charging it and using it, sometimes it gets hot because of the electrons flowing in.

It may be a dead screen. Try holding down the power button, and see if you can see the slider.

Is the screen black like when it's off/locked, or is it gray like the power on/off screen's background?

The year warranty expired..yeah sometimes Apple just wants money. You could just go to a third party place or send it in to a third party place, though the problem with that is sometimes they don't even try to fix it. Some try, which is great, but can't fix it.

I got mine for Christmas, my warranty doesn't expire till 12/24/2014.
