Hi everyone,

I thinking about a new build, mostly for photo editing and gaming (and a little video editing).

Here are the parts I've chosen so far : http://pcpartpicker.com/user/zeero/saved/pG92FT

Some precisions : Red drives are for storage (in Raid 1), monitor is for gaming (I already have a NEC 27'' for editing), big PSU is for futur proofing (I'm thinking about adding more HDD and maybe going for a 3 way SLI sometime).

Still, I have some questions and I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

1. I noticed the GPU would come close to the Noctua NH-D15 in the primary PCIe slot. Is that an issue at all? Could I use another PCIe slot if I only use 1 GPU?

2. Do you think the D15 will be compatible with the crucial RAM I've chosen if I ever decide to populate every slot?

3. Is that RAM a good choice? I thought 32gb-2400 would be plenty for photoshop (and Premiere, when I start learning it). I also felt crucial was a trusty brand...

4. I was thinking about using the 1TB SSD for OS, programs and games. Would it be better to add a smaller SSD only for OS and use the 1TB for games, programs and scratch disk?

5. Do you guys think about any improvements I could make to this build?

Thanks ALOT!

Éric

1. As long as it doesn't touch the GPU then you should be fine if your case has good airflow
2. Crucial ram is low profile so it should fit but I would populate the two furthest slots first. 16 gigs would be enough but if you want 32 then they might not all fit.
3. Crucial are a good ram manufacturer
4. SSDs degrade if you read and write to them too much. I would just put your os and essential software on a 240gb ssd and use hard drives for the rest
5. That is a beast of a build but if you want you could go for a 780ti as long as you have the budget and good cooling.

Thanks for the answer! The board actually has 8 memory slots, so i guess you meant the 4 furthest slot... For optimizing airflow, I will look at noctua's fans, because I heard they we're pretty quiet...

How bad does SDD degrade if you put games on it? I mean, I thought I had read that a SDD used as a scratch disk would still last long enough you want to change it because of new tech rather than because it has crashed or something...?
