Have a late 2011 Alienware M17xR3 Gaming Laptop. Has an Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge and a discrete nVidia GTX 560m Graphics Card. Came with Windows 7 x64 preloaded, since upgraded to Windows 8.1 and partitioned for LinuxMint 17 Qiana Cinnamon x64. Hard Drive is 2x500GB SSHD or SSD in a RAID 0 configuration using an Intel hardware controller (came that way). BIOS is Alienware customized Insyde H2O and the BIOS consistently does not recognize the nVidia discrete graphics card, only the Intel HD 3000 Graphics on-board with the CPU. As a result, either OS fails to recognize the existence of the discrete card. On top of that I can't seem to effectively set the nVidia card as the default graphics renderer with the Intel only as a fallback. Please help. Any other information needed, let me know.
