I just built my first PC and I've heard having a PC on the carpet is bad because of static electricity. Is this true? I don't care about dust so much, I can clean my PC if I need to. I'm just scared of static electricity. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Is it bad to keep my PC on the carpet?

If you have problems in your house with static electricity (i.e. anytime you touch metal you are getting shocked), I would suggest something to discharge the static prior to touching the computer - however, just sitting on the carpet won't damage the computer.

While what the other guy said is true, it could be bad for dust. And if you have a bottom facing power supply then your PC will most certainly die from being on the carpet. Most people I know just put like a piece of wood/cardboard/plastic on the carpet for it to stand on. And that is certainly a safe bet.
