Z97 vs Z87. Future proof or jump on a deal?

Recently, there have been really good deals on Z87 motherboards lately. I've been wanting to build my first PC, and these have really been making me want to pull the trigger. But I've realized that a new generation of Intel processors are coming out and would only support the Series 9 set and later. Generally, I'd be mainly using my computer for gaming, and my question is, would it be smarter for me to invest in a Z97 motherboard to future proof my system or jump on the deals now? Would gaming performance and standards be dramatically increased with the introduction of the new Broadwell processor?

There is a significant increase in performance for Core i7's if you use Z97 chipsets instead of Z87 chipsets however I haven't seen much of an increase in i3 or i5 with Z97. The new Pentium CPU's get higher performance on the new Z97 chipset as well. I personally recommend getting Z97.

Oh I'm sorry I meant to say "with the introduction of the new processor." I'm leaning towards the Z87 because of the deals but I'm worried that gaming standards would dramatically change, with the introduction of Broadwell, forcing me to upgrade if I wanted to run newer games at high performance.

If you want to get the best performance I'd say get Z97. If you just want to be able to run games smoothly with not much concern for graphics then I'd say that you should get Z87.
