I was taking apart one of my rigs and accidentally dropped a 4770k in a bucket of coolant.

If I let it dry will it be okay?

Solution
Let it air dry naturally, which could take a day+.
After this, see if there is any residual martial on the CPU, some coolants are conductive (which are rare, but they are out there)

After that, I would personally clean it with 90%+ alcohol to make sure its clean and makes good contact.
Since there was no electrical charge, there should be little risk.

Thanks dude, you've calmed my nerves! Does it make any difference that it was de-lidded? (that's how it ended up in the bucket to begin with, was stuck to the waterblock with no clamp assembly holding it in place when i removed the WB from the mobo).

Here's a description from the coolant RE electical conductivity:
- low electrical conductivity
- extra pure distilled/deionized water of electrical conductivity of 1µS/cm used for the coolant

The two things I was wondering:
1) How long was it submerged??
2) Was it delidded??

I'd have few concerns over a non-delidded cpu dropped in liquid and immediately removed. From the factory the seal is pretty good; obviously delidding takes that away - did you use anything to reattach the IHS to the board after delidding (ie. I didn't, just relying on the cpu holder on the mobo to keep the IHS in place).

'With the IHS off, I'd clean everything including the bottom contacts GENTLY with 99.9% alcohol (yes, make the effort to find it!!)...IMHO you don't want any coolant residue left under the IHS or on the contacts with the mobo. Successfully accomplishing this I'd think you have a good chance at being OK!

Hey,

My stock heatspreader was removed and never put back on. I'm using a kit from the waterblock manufacturer (EKWB) that allows you to mount the heatsink directly on top of the CPU with the heatspreader removed.
