I use a 1 TB Western Digital Black Caviar drive. Model: WD1001FALS. It was originally in my desktop PC and it was running perfectly. I had to attend college in another country and I needed all my data with me. So I disconnected the drive, put it in an ESD safe bag and packed it in between a lot of clothes. I also put two other hard drives(both seagate 300gb drives) in the same ESD safe bag. After my flight and moving into the college dorm, I purchased a SATA to USB 3.0 converter.

I now use an MSI GS60 notebook. My other two seagate hard drives worked perfectly with this converter. But the WD 1TB drive was not cooperating. It didn't even appear in the My Computer window. It was visible in disk management and Remo Recover, though.

With remo recover, I was able to view about 10% of the files/folders on this drive. This drive doesn't seem to be making any weird sound, so I am guessing there is no mechanical failure.

Here is a screenshot of disk management. The faulty disk is Disk2.

I checked the health of the hdd on HD Tune Pro. Everything seems to be alright. Average seek time was 12ms. Reading and Writing speeds were normal.

I know that my data is still on the drive but I am not sure what is causing this crisis.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for reading this.

Hey, samanthms!

Have you tried accessing the HDD through another computer?
I can suggest to check out this thread and see if the solutions of the community there help you in any way:
http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/143342-convert-dy...
If none of the above worked, I would back up the data (even if it is 10%) and convert the HDD to basic:
Here's a link that will guide you how to do it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/26829-convert-dyna...
This will basically format your drive and all data that is not backed up will be lost.

Hope I helped with some possible solutions.
Keep us posted. :)
