I have a brand new Seagate Backup Plus 3TB external drive. The light on the front is on, but my computer (Win7, 64b) doesn't recognize the drive. It doesn't show up in Computer/Manage/Storage/Disc Management. I have disconnected and reconnected both the power and USB ports, tried using the USB 2.0 or 3.0, and rebooted. None of these efforts have worked. The light is still on, but the computer doesn't see the drive. Please help.

Thanks,
djdude1327

Check if the drive can be recognized by another computer.

If it does not work on multiple computers and it is right out of the box, will need to be exchanged. Does the drive sound like it is spinning?

Thanks for your answer, but you won't believe this: just on a whim, I disconnected the USB from the back of the computer, and reconnected it into a port on the front of the computer. I think the rear ones are 2.0, and the one in the front is 3.0. In any case, as soon as I plugged in the front USB, the driver was immediately installed, the light remained on, and when I clicked on Computer and looked, the drive was there! WOO HOO! Others having this issue, take note.

I find that sometimes different ports on the same computer have more power than others.

Glad it worked out.
