What internet speed you got?

What Router make and model?

How many people/devices are sharing the internet? TV's at out house are killing me - updating firmware all the time.

In Control Panel, Device Manager is your wifi card working properly? Is the driver up to date?

Sounds like a router issue as wired you get full speed you are saying.

How far away are you from the router? How many bars of strength do you have in Windows?

Which router, and how old it is?

To add up .. does your ISP have capping? And what are you using Broadband Internet or WireInternet / do you have torrents downloading and lastly does your wifi have a password

With that router you are on a DSL connection. Still, those download speeds seem really slow even when it is normal. Have you contacted your ISP to have them test the line and make sure no error messages from the modem? Also, double check the connection from the phone line to the DSL modem is tight and the wire is fully inserted.

It can really only be a few things, since its not your isp/internet connection (you state it works just fine wired, we'll take it that 250k is what your max speed would be usually).

1 - your wireless adapter, or its software/drivers
2 - The wireless device on your router (if it works fine with other wireless devices you can cross that off)
3 - Interference from other devices in your home. Switching channels might fix that.

if its a dsl line probably no capping try contacting your isp provider for line testing

Yes, I would start with the ISP. Years ago I was on a basic DSL speed tier, and my download speed was 768 kbps, and I used to get it. 250 kbps is approaching dialup speeds- not normal.

What speed does your laptops wireless adapter say it is connected at ? (you have to look under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections\yourwirelessadaptername to check that).

thats not very fast. Thats not mega bytes a second, its mega bits. Which is about 10-11k a second I think off the top of my head. For example, my laptop that I am on now, is pretty old, doesnt have a very good wireless adapter, but is connected to the router at 130Mbps.

I'd say its an issue with your adapter, or its ability to talk to the router. Looks like the handshaking process is settling for a slow speed, maybe due to packet loss? Thats pretty much all the advice I have however.
