On a previous thread, the best $1000 Gaming Desktop was chosen out of 13 votes. 86% agreed on one build, Logainofhades's build. If you want to see the discussion, here is the link: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2292047/epic-1000-gaming-builds.html

This build is awesome in every way. However, there are 2 things that I would like your opinions on. Firstly, some thought the PSU couldn't supply enough power or that it was just extremely ineffecient. I would like to know what you guys think. Is there a better option out there?
Secondly, Logainofhades's build included windows 7. The goal of my build is to last at least 5 years without needing to upgrade anything. Do you think Windows 7 will be supported for another 5 years? Is windows 8 a better choice? I know that many people don't like Windows 8. But aren't games starting to be made to perform on windows 8 better than windows 7?

I know these are a lot of questions, but I think many people, myself included, would like to know if it would be a better decision to buy Windows 8 or Windows 7.

I personally love windows 8. Once I learned the new layout, I came to prefer it. But I also have a 23" touchscreen monitor on my windows 8 machine. I would highly recommend it to anyone using windows 8. It makes it that much better. But for the first 2 or 3 months I didn't have the touchscreen and didn't mind it.

I have windows 7 on my laptop, and don't find myself wishing I was back on the windows 8 machine though. So maybe I am just easily pleased. But they are coming out with windows 9 rather soon. Might even be by the end of the year.

I guess to sum it all up. If you like to use touchscreen, I would recommend windows 8. If you don't want touchscreen, go with 7. But even if you aren't going to use touchscreen, don't think windows 8...
A 450W will do. But you mentioned no upgrades for the next 5 years. So the 450W will do, however if I was you I would aim for a 500-550W minimum.

To answer the Windows question, go with Windows 7 for now then when your games can't support Windows 7, then get Windows 9. That's my opinion on which Windows is the best choice.
