It really depends on the size and what particular features you want. If you just want a normal 20 - 24 inch monitor that is 1080p 5ms 60hz, and not worried about IPS, brightness, contrast ratios, etc...then they are pretty cheap.

A 20 - 24 inch, 5ms or less, 60 hz, 1080p, LED backlit, with built in speakers, is in the $120 - $150 range. This one is pretty good:

I'd say about $120-$15 like NBSN. For gaming, you don't need much, you're not worried about perfect color and viewing angles like an artist or designer would be, you just want to see what's going on in detail. I'd go for a 24 inch 1080p, any larger and you'll probably see pixels, any smaller and you probably won't save much money, but it will still be smaller. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
