Hi ok you are speaking to "Anything Computer 101" and am not sure what hdd means. Ok no laughing :)  I am just learning about computers and find the capabilities fascinating. I'd really like to take a class or do some on line studies about them Anyway if you have to be more computer savvy on this site I understand. I don't want to drive anyone batty trying to explain things.
I need to get the data stored on the LaCie on to another external portable storage device which I know you understand. So I should have both LaCie and Seagate Plus hooked up to computer and then get cloning program and take it from there? Thank you for your help!

If these are standard data files (office documents, videos, music,...) and not programs, you can simply use the file explorer to drag-n-drop the files from one drive to another.

Thank you Hawkeye22, yes it would just be files but do I need the programs to run data if I want to download data on another computer or would it just be important for the computer receiving the data to have the appropriate programs?

I'm not sure what you are asking, but I'll make an assumption. If this doesn't answer your question, please rephrase your question so that I can better understand it.

If they are word documents and you moved the external drive to another computer, then you will need Word/Office installed on the computer trying to read those documents. Basically if you plan on moving these documents to another computer, that computer would need a compatible program in order to access those files.
