Hi. Recently I have bought a Cooler Master E2 IC Essential Gold Thermal Compound. But the thing is I have never used a gold thermal paste before so I'm kinda worried about how it will perform. So need you suggestions. I have i5 3470 cpu and I also have Cooler Master Hyper 212X. It would also be helpful if you guys give some tips on how I should apply the thermal paste. It's a bit hard to install this cooler. :)  Oh btw the stock thermal paste that comes with the cooler have become a bit watery. Does this means it can no longer be used? Thanks. :)

I have the same thermal compound and it's performing well. Not exceptional, but quite good.

There are some differences of opinion on how to apply thermal paste, but the best method I've found is to squeeze out a uncooked-piece-of-rice sized bit of compound in the middle of the CPU.
Then place the cooler and screw it down on one side a little, then on the opposite side, then the other sides, then on the first side again, etc.

I wouldn't use watery/runny thermal compound. You can try giving it a good shake and seeing if that makes it less watery, but otherwise, don't use it anymore.

I've never used gold thermal paste, but I can understand the logic in using it. That said, silver has higher thermal conductivity, so I'd stick with that.

As for the application of paste, my preferred method is the classic one; spread the paste evenly over the entire surface area of the processor so you don't leave any bubbles or gaps.

I'm pretty sure it's just gold colored, I don't think there's any actual gold in it. I might be wrong, but you'd need a lot of gold to make the stuff this yellow.

EDIT: Also, you'd expect it to be pretty expensive if there's gold in it instead of silver. It's not.
