Directional Wi-Fi antenna not working

I appreciate any advice you could give me on trouble shooting a directional antenna.

I replaced my router's stock omni antenna with a directional Wi-Fi antenna.
But that made the Wi-Fi signal much weaker than with the stock omni antenna.
Signal strength received on the computer is:

  • 2 out of 4 bars with omni antenna
  • 0 out of 4 bars with directional antenna

  • I tried directional antenna in 4 positions:

    • facing the antenna front and back
    • rotated 90 degrees for polarity

  • Connection on both ends of the pigtail are tight.
What else can I trouble shoot?

    Thank you.
