My WD My Book Premium II mac formatg (two 750GB in RAID) no longer mounts in OS 10.6.8. System profiler shows an unknown device on both firewire and usb. The blue light comes on, the fan cycles, but no connection. I've take the two drives out and copied all the data off them using DiskInternals Linux Reader. How in the world can I get the RAID back together so I can get the files back?

hfs+ explorer on pc can see the drive but of course can't access them because of the raid.

If those files are important and irreplaceable then I suggest you should consult or send your drive to a professional data recovery service. We've been using WeRecoverData so far and they've been able to provide successful results. Retrieving files from a failed RAID drive in HFS format could be difficult for an average user without much knowledge and experience in data recovery.

There surely must be a program that can recreate the WD raid controller and merge the data easily. Likely though it is a proprietary software from WD. I'm trying to avoid the cost of 'professional' data recovery. Since the drives still function, there's no need for clean rooms..etc. More likely, I will just have to buy a new PCB for the case and re-install the drives. I've seen several programs ranging from $49-$250 which claim to be able to rebuild the RAID. I can't believe I'm the only one this is happened to who is trying to fix it myself. I'm looking for some help picking a program that can work. Or perhaps a source for a new input board for the My Book Premium II. Or even just some words of results from others. Thanks
