As the title says, I have a 23.6" monitor that needs to be replaced... I have a second one sitting to its right as well. I mostly do gaming and general use but am a pretty strong power user, I am not doing any graphics or video editing or production.

So should I go for a similar sized replacement or should I go for a 27"?

Also, if I stick with the 23.6" screen, should I go for a IPS over a TN?

Solution
A plus for a second identical 23.6" unit would be the seamless effect of dragging a window from one device to the other. If you buy the same brand/model of your existing monitor, you will have consistent color.

A 27" monitor has advantages if you have trouble with text size. 27" may come in 1080P, 1440P or even 4k. Higher resolutions display more, but the text gets progressively smaller.

IPS will have better 178/178 viewing angles compared to tn at 170/160 or similar. tn gives faster response for gamers. Your usage suggests ips.

If you are a power user, and if your graphics card supports 1440P I would go that route, and plan on a second 27"1440P The Korean QNIX units are well reviewed and relatively cheap.
