Hi, I'm planning to upgrade my GPU but I only have a 480 watt psu. This is my current set up.

AMD Athlon FX-6300 Black Edition (6 CORE UNLOCKED CPU) 3.5 GHz (4.1 GHz TURBO CORE)
ASRock 970Extreme3 R2.0 AM3+ motherboard w/USB 3.0
8GB DDR3 RAM, UPGRADEABLE TO 32GB
1 TB 7200rpm SATA hard drive
24X DVD-RW drive
Radeon 5450HD graphics card with 2GB RAM (HDMI and VGA outputs)
480 watt power supply

Also, if the psu cant handle the R9 270, what are some good gpu for a low end cost? Thank you

r9 270 requires supplementary power. does that psu provide any pcie power cable(s)?if it doesnt you defenately need an upgrade. what is it exactly? r9 270 is a fine pair for your cpu!

I'd need to know the make and model of the psu not just it's advertised wattage.

You would need to have a pretty good 80+ Bronze supply. If you have one of those no-names psu that a Dell/Hp build came with, I wouldn't dare.
