Multiple games lead to complete system freeze

A few months ago the HDD crashed in my PC. I bought a new 1TB Western Digital HDD, and ever since I loaded Windows 7 on this new drive I have been experiencing complete system freezes while playing certain games.

The freezes always follow the same order. After a few minutes of playing one of these games certain sounds, but not all sounds, will cut out. It is different for every game. In Skyrim the voices and music cut out, but items still make noise (sword slashes, eating ingredients, etc.); but in Mass Effect 3 the music tracks can be heard, but all other sounds stop. A few moments following the sound cutting out, the video freezes and the last few seconds of whatever audio was playing (sword slash in Skyrim, or music in ME3) will loop. As far as I can tell this is a complete system freeze, as I cannot alt+tab, Ctrl+alt+del, or reach the desktop in any way. This freezing typically lasts a minute or so, after which the game resumes normally as if nothing had happened, and if I had alt+tabbed I would now be on the desktop.

Here are some specs on my PC:
MOBO M68MT-S2
System Type x64-based PC
Processor AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor, 3300 Mhz,
GPU Geforce GTX 560
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB

Here are some of the games that freeze:
Skyrim
Mass Effect 2 + 3
Fallout New Vegas
GTA IV
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Euro Truck Simulator 2

Here is what tests I've done to diagnose the problem, and what they yielded:
I tried running everything in windowed, all still froze
I tried a fresh install of windows, All still froze
I disabled my sound card in bios and tried playing these games, all still froze
I ran Memtest86+ for 7 cycles, No issues with the memory
I ran Furmark for 1 hour with GPU-Z and CPU-Z running to monitor, no overheating for freezing
I ran Seatools and found no issues with the HDD

I'm at the end of my rope here. I need some new ideas!

Solution
Weird. Usually this is driver or ram related.
I asume you tried different versions of driver for your sound card?
Also, please get a new installation of your GPU drivers, make it a CLEAN install, and custom install.
Install only the driver and the physx, leave unmarked everything else (audio driver, 3d, nvidia expirience, etc).

Try setting CPU affinity to see if the 6 cores are the problem (some games use 1 or 2 cores max, and if there are more cores, they have issues).

Finally, make sure your HDD is set to not go to sleep when not in use for a certain amount of time. This is in Windows energy saving options i believe.

Setting the affinity for 2 cores seems to be working. These games worked perfectly before the HDD crash, and as far as I can tell some of these games are optimized to take advantage of more cores, so maybe it's just MY processor that's busted.

Very hard for me to guess, I dont know that much about CPUs (fell out of the game some time ago).
The problem with affinity may not be due to the games only. There might other programs that are interfering, but that is very hard to know which one.
You might have had a program beofre that automaticly pushed games to other cores due to it beeing taking too much power from one core..

Sorry, Im lost at this point.
