Hello! I am new to the computer building world and I wanted to start off with a moderate gaming pc bases on an AMD processor. I am looking for something that'll run games on ultra or very high on 40+ frames. Could someone help me pick the parts? A must is 16 or 12gb of ram. I am also deciding on either a micro atx mid tower or a mini itx steam machine like pc. If I go with the mini itx then 8gb of ram should be enough. Thanks

Solution

There are micro atx options. Just not itx options.

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 54.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($14.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($44.99 @ Micro Center)

AMD FX compatible motherboards don't come in micro atx or itx, so you might want to change your case mind or go intel.

Also, why do you want 12 or 16GB of ram. That is going to eat up some of your budget that can go towards a better GPU or something. 8GB is good for gaming.

I agree with geotchkin . If you want micro-ATX or smaller AND gaming power then intel is a better option .
Motherboards like
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-motherboard-m5a78lmusb3
do not fully support the power management features of AMD FX processors . The 760G chipset is years old , and a board like that has much weaker VRM's and may not last under cpu load

As for RAM ... you do not need more than 8 gig for a gamer at this time . Do not put resources towards more RAM when you could be getting a stronger graphics card or processor for the same $

Sorry, should have said no good micro-atx Not a fan of the 780 chipsets for the high-end FX's. You want lots and good VRM's. That board doesn't even have a heatsink on the VRM's. It will run hot with a 8350, real hot. And in a small case, toaster in a box.
