I'm thinking of getting a EVGA - GeForce GTX 770 Graphic Card - 1046 MHz Core - 4 GB GDDR5 SDRAM - PCI Express 3.0 x16

My current specs are

Intel core i5 4690 quad core 3.5 ghz CPU , ASUS Z97-A motherboard . Evga geforce gtx 750 ti super clicked 2 gb gpu , 2 tb hard drive . 16 gb corsair vengeance 1600 ram

Corsair RM series 750 watt psu , and a corsair hydro series h100i liquid cooling system

Would my current psu be able to handle the 770?

Solution

Although you probably wouldn't want to SLI two of them with that PSU. The RM series is let down by some poor component choices (capacitors in particular), that make me hesitant to recommend it for that heavy of a load.

Yes, it would handle a single 770 or 780 comfortably with the other components you listed. Just to note, it would work with two 770 cards, I just wouldn't personally recommend it, as pushing it that close to capacity, with those capacitors, could be a recipe for trouble down the road.

There's not a whole lot to say, as a lot of it comes down to personal opinion really, so try not to take anything I say too personally or anything! :)

If that's the non 'K' version of the 4690 you've got, you didn't really need to get a Z97 chipset motherboard, one of the H chipsets would of been sufficient (or alternatively, you should of got the K version of the CPU to go with the Z97 board you picked). Makes sense to match overclockable CPU with overclockable motherboard, and non-overclockable with non-overclockable parts.

I've heard good things about the motherboard you picked (HardOCP rated it highly I seem to recall). I probably would of picked a different PSU (I'm particularly fond of the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 series), but it's not the end of the world. I would of gone with a different CPU cooler, but that's really down to personal preference on my part (although I should add that if you don't have the 'K' version of the CPU, you really didn't need to go that extreme on the cooler - a cooler of that capacity is only really needed for overclocking).

The only big change I would make is to get an SSD to go along with the HDD. Hope that's of some help.

All in all it's not too bad :)
