Can some1 please explain how the 980 will be 10% faster than a 780ti?? i am planning on buying a MSI 780ti in the next month and was curious if the 980 is better.

http://wccftech.com/geforce-gtx-980-specifications-2048/

Assuming the chart in the link is correct i do not see how the 980 will be better? i am no expert in understanding these things but all i see is a cheaper card with lower power req. it seems like they are focusing on a lower budget customer, and not some 780ti killer card..

can anyone explain if i am right or wrong?

recently bought an asus gtx 780 ti matrix, and then they released the gtx 980

Just bought the gtx 980.

Just ran the first benchmark in 3dmark 11:
gtx 780 ti scored 13794
gtx 980 scored 9062

Going to continue to check - but thought I would post initial results....
UPDATE:
Forgot I had gsync enabled for the pg278q .

New Results
gtx 780 ti scored 13794
gtx 980 scored 13667

These are at stock speeds.

and the gtx 980 is $200 cheaper :)

gonna try some games now

The 980 uses the newer Maxwell core (780ti is a Kepler core) which is why it is, or at least should be, slightly more powerful. These early "leaked" reports are saying the 980 is roughly 10% better than a 780ti, and it uses much less power(175w vs 250w). They are, in fact, focusing on making the cards more power efficient, but that does not in anyway make it a lesser card. It also has 4gb of memory vs the 3 on the ti, but that may not matter much if you're gaming @1080p. Since a 780ti still costs just over $600, and the 980 is going to drop in a couple days @ $549, I would say, as long as these leaked reports turn out to be true, go with the 980. I have been following all of these rumors and leaks on the 980 as I am planning on switching out my SLI 760 setup for one, and then SLI'ing again with another in a year or so. Unless the price on the 780ti drops alot when the 980 releases, the 980 is an easy choice for me. Just my two cents.

understand that in every concept of power efficiency something has to be sacrificed. Even though it is by a slightly lower margin, the GTX 980 with be slower performing than the GTX 780Ti, however this slight underpowering in GPU performance will not be noticeable at all in 99% of cases.

You will only notice these in precisely shot benchmarks. in general use these numbers will be barely noticeable and you will enjoy your games all the same, and remember cards perform differently depending on the game, patches , drivers etc etc and so on.

Altogether the 780ti is a great card, but at the pricetag of 600 the 980 undoubtly is way worth than the 780ti in terms of price performance and efficiency.

So if you do not already own a card like gtx 770-780-780ti, r9 290, r9 285,r9 290x. Then there is no need to move to gtx 970 - 980. This is my advice to anybody out there.

You should check out the benchmarks, the 980 outperforms the 780 ti by about 7% on average from what I have seen, and this is on release drivers for the 980, over time the gap will widen.

I was actually watching some youtube vids with 970, not 980, way overclocked and it beat the 780ti but a few points.

i find this very hard to believe ,you are going to have to post prove of this.
I am running my 780ti at 1250mgz so i seriously doubt any 970 is going to take it on in games.

That does NOT say a GTX 970 beats a 780ti???
The GTX 780ti scored 9015
The GTX 970 scored 8862
what kind of crazy math you doing here?
