According to the GB site you need F3 of the BIOS which is the first release BIOS. So it should work with that CPU out of the box

Good choice on mobo, have you considered Gaming 7 from Msi or gigabyte? Z97 will be more upgradable as it'll support Broadwell cpus, and with that budget you can easily get a high end one.
Also, if you don't use 4k or tri monitor setup, 3gb will be enough for gpu.
And don't go for Corsair cx/cd/vs/builder series psu, they're all low quality, any 650w psu from EVGA/ antec/ Seasonic/ Xfx will be a lot better choice.

Yes that'd be a solid choice on mobo and you should definitely consider getting a better psu.

Edit to my earlier post. When I specified my motherboard I said a gigabyte g1 sniper z87 but it's actually a gigabyte g1 sniper 5

G1.Sniper Z87 (rev. 1.1) If you have the right revision of the board the 4790k is supported from the first BIOS release.

G1.Sniper 5 (rev. 1.x) supports the Core i7-4790K with BIOS Version F9.

You can still boot up with the Core i7-4790K using an older BIOS version and then reflash to a newer version.

I recently brought an Apevia x Hermes case and discovered that the g1 sniper 5 can't fit this motherboard because the motherboard is an EATX when I thought it was an ATX. Just to reconfirm my fears there is no way that this motherboard will fit this case right?

Ok thanks, I decided to order the NZXT source 530 full tower instead and ordered an EVGA supernova 750g2 psu to replace the corsair one
