A little confused about the PSU requirement for the MSI R9 280X. It states I need a 750 watt psu and my current OCZ 500 watt is well below this. I've read that I won't need anywhere near as much as 750 but I'd rather just play it safe and go with what MSI say so can anyone recommend me a good 750 watt power supply. My budget is around £80 and I've been looking at the corsair cx750m. It fits my budget and seems to fill the requirements. Is this a good choice? Many thanks!

The R9 280X doesn't need 750 watts. The old 7970 GHz Edition (which it's based on) didn't even need 600 watts. Unless you're running an overclocked AMD system, then yes, 750 watts makes sense.

Here's the best one -

I see. A friend of mine has a spare XFX pro 650w core edition PSU that he can sell me for £30. Would this be enough for it? Sorry for not stating earlier but I am using it with an i5 3470 and 8GB ram, one ssd and one sata hard drive. No overclocking and no plan to go xfire.

It is perfectly fine. That unit is essentially the unit I recommended, only non-modular.

Fantastic, thanks for the responses all. I'm going to go ahead with my friends 650 watt model as he's selling to me for very cheap.
