Hi all,

I currently have a XFX 650w Pro (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...) but the fan is far too loud when running demanding games. I'm not sure if this is due to it overheating, or it just has a loud fan...

Here's my system:

CASE: Fractal Design Arc Mini R2
CPU: Intel i5 2400
CPU COOLER: COOLERMASTER 212 EVO
RAM: 3 x 4GB
GPU: MSI AMD R9 280X 3G
PSU: XFX 650w Pro

What silent/ultra quiet PSUs are available around £50-70 and what wattage would you suggest?

The XFX should be OK. Try a Seasonic M12II 620 ($75 @ Newegg)

Does that offer silent/ultra quiet operation?

I've been looking at the Be Quiet range, due to their claim of silent fans. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Any ideas why my current PSU is so fudging loud??

if want to go silent, then try corsair GS 700 i have one with an OC phenomII and one r9 270x and it barely turns the fan to operate while max loads, but go only for the newest versions as the old ones starts to work with the fan at 100% every time (thats an issie in older series, the ones who have NT at the end of serial numbre are flowless). corsair TX series have passive fans as well. Cooler master silent pro presume to be great in overall mostly in silent operation but dont know about prices in UK.

this PSU fans works with the load you are pulling from them so the higher the wattage the silent they'll be. but a 700W would be more than enough i think

I've been looking into this for a good few hours now, with help from various review sites which provide noise and efficiency analysis for various PSUs.

From what I've gathered, my build amounts to approx. 400w, I'll therefore require a PSU in the 600-750w range in order to be most efficient.

In terms of noise, PSUs with passive fans seem to offer the quietest operation.

If the above is correct, please could someone recommend a semi/full modular PSU, 700w minimum, with extremely quiet fan speed. I'm looking to spend up to £80.
