Secondary HDD slowing down SSD boot time

I just installed a new 1TB WD Blue HDD, pretty straight forward, when windows 7 tried to create new simple volume it appeared to have done it, but the window it was in stopped responding, so i closed it and restarted pc.. at which point it took forever to try and boot, so much so i didnt even get to boot at all.. i just restarted and tried again and again, no luck. unplugged the HDD and im back to normal boot up times with my SSD.. Anyone know whats causing it to be so slow? Ive checked the common sense things, like the SSD is still my #1 boot drive, and the HDD isnt even on the boot drive list. I googled this question but found some guy talking about his intel/marvel sockets (which i dont have) and i didnt find an answer.. any help would be appreciated

Solution
Well this is as weird as one could possibly imagine, dispite never doing screws up "too" tight, only until the HDD didnt wobble anymore, and dispite it working initially.. it turns out, the most likely cause was because the frame in my case was squeezing the HDD too much!! (and now ive learned why you dont buy a cheap case £25 and buy a corsair case) .. i tried various cables, different ports... luckily tried it one last time out of the case when i did a fresh install again on SSD.. and voila!.. it worked.. i then screwed it back in and low and behold.. the problem returned, simple thinking.. i took it back out, it worked.. put it back in gently.. and done.. jobs a gooden.. Now let it be known to anyone else with a similar problem!!
Hi there Lukey_AMD,

Is it possible to attach the hard drive to another computer and see if same problem occurs? If it boots fine with one drive and not with two, this might be an indication of overloaded power supply.
Otherwise, you can try swapping the SATA cables or using another SATA port.

Hope this will help,

I can assure you its not my PSU, its a 650W and i use 370 of that.. I was thinking of swapping the sata port, i even checked the mobo guide book to check if i havent plugged them in to a raid configuration without realising it, but i saw no information on that. Also.. upon waiting 5/6 mins to get a successful boot from SSD, when going into disk management it asks me to initialize HDD again (odd.. already did this the first time when it stopped responding) except this time.. i get an I/O error?...

Thanks for that info, I plugged it into a separate port, and still takes 5 mins to get up and running but this time a difference.. 'driver software installation' which is odd.. I checked the drivers before the restart in original port and they were up to date.. This is taking a while to do this installation though so who knows. It just failed btw lol. Typical :/

Yes the SSD is first priority, as for boot priorities there is only 1 option, my SSD (was 2 but i unplugged DVD).

Ive just changed cable, boot takes same time 5/6 mins, this time it said the same thing about driver installation except last time it came up with the model number etc of HDD, this time it just says "Disk Drive".. and yet again HDD isnt appearing in disk management.

Could you plug the drive in the SATA port it was initially(when it got detected in Disk Management) and test it with the DLG tool.
If it is not the SATA ports or the cables, there is a chance that the HDD might be faulty.
Another thing you can do is to contact the WD Tech Support either by e-mail or by phone and eventually RMA the HDD if it is the cause for your issue.

WD Support: http://support.wdc.com/contact/index.asp?lang=en
WD RMA: http://support.wdc.com/warranty/

Hope this will help,

Thank you so much finally after days, and hours of research u have helped solve my problem. I actually didn't think it would work, I tried this as a last resort. I did everything you could possibly imagine to solve the problem, again thank you.
