A few months ago my power supply started making crackling noises for a minute or so and then stop. It never bothered me because it didn't shut down my PC or anything like that and I thought it was coil whining at first. But now it has started doing the same noise again and now it won't stop. It has been doing this for a bit more than 20 minutes now and is still crackling as I am posting this. So far nothing bad has happened.

I started thinking if it was the fan hitting a cable but the sound seems to come directly from the outlet of the PSU.

I live in Sweden so XFX's lifetime warrancy does not apply here and I think the warranty has expired on this PSU already as I built this system for a bit more than 2 years ago

If my specs are needed:
M5A78-M LX3 Motherboard
XFX PRO550W PSU
AMD FX-4100 (Stock settings with Hyper 212 EVO)
AMD Powercolor 6850 (Stock settings)
Kingston HyperX 2x4GB RAM
WD Blue 500GB HDD
WD Black 1,350GB HDD
Coolermaster Elite 430

Solution
Sonds like a bad connection between the PSU and the cable you plug into the wall. Try reseating the cable and if that doesn't work, try a different cable.

Also, when you unplug the cable check the end of it for dirt, melting etc. and check the socket at the back of you PSU for visible problems too

I can't see any problems with the cable or psu socket. But I replaced the cable with my guitar amp one and the noise is gone. Not sure if it actually was because I switched Cables. But I often Clean my PC and plugging and unplugging it might be the cause of the noise. Not sure.

Now I just need to play a long game of Waiting to see if it occurs again. Thanks for the fast reply!

Well..the waiting game came to and end and the noise is back.
And now I am noticing that it intensifies when I run games, chrome or move my mouse cursor around.

Might just have to buy a new psu.
