Hi my home is in the Uk and i have my home internet through VIRGIN and one of there new super hubs, i now spend around 8 months of the year i Ayutthaya Thailand where i have internet through BB broadband . I have managed to get a bit of a connection through companies like hotspot shield etc .

What i would like to do is find a router that will allow me to connect to my home network and internet in the uk, i have been useing team viewer OK, but when i tried to set up the vpn in windows 7 ,i had no luck and i have been told that there is a problem with the superhub that virgin supplies (some type of pass through that is missing ) my son has set me up an DYNDNS

account ,but there is no settings for this in the superhub . the superhub can be set on to MODEM only .

what i realy need help with is getting another router or modem/router that would allow me to connect to it and my UK broadband from Thailand . It just seems a sin that i have a 30 meg connection in the UK that is not being used most of the time

If possible keep it fairly simple as i am now 63 and my brain is not that good as it use to be

Thanking anyone for any advive on whick router to use (not to expensive as my funds are fairly low now )

Yours Dave Gilchrist ...gilkouk

The easy way is with Logmein Hamachi - this is a VPN software that you don't have to change setting on your routers....just load and go. You can have up to 5 computers for free - up to 32 computers are $29 per year.

Before buying a new VPN router, lets see if flashing your current router with DD-WRT firmware could help. DD-WRT is a free open source project aimed at developing a Linux based firmware solution that removes the restrictions placed on routers by their default programming. Fortunately, it has the option of selecting different VPN configurations like: PPTP, L2TP or OpenVPN and Once configured, users on the network don’t need to enter a log in process when they need to activate the VPN. It just starts automatically, so any device connects automatically and easily, giving you all the benefits of using a reliable VPN service.

In order to check whether your router is DD-WRT supported or not, please check your router here : http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

And here is a configuration guide that will give you better idea of how you can config it on your router.

Hope it could help.

hi thanks , the superhub that virgin supplies is a netgear vmdg480 and is not capable of being flashed with DD-WRT ,,,BUT it can be switched to modem only ...so I have purchased a netgear WNR3500L router that can be upgraded with DD-WRT . This should then give me a better wirless range and the VPN setup that I need . thanks for your help
