Adding a third router via Dlink powerline devices stops the Wi-Fi on the main Wi-Fi network.

I have a D-link DIR820L as my main Wi-Fi router (connected to the cable modem). I have linked a secondary router (Dlink 655) via Ethernet cable to the 820L and set it up as second wireless network but with DHCP turned off, etc. All works fine.

I have now added a third router (D-link714) but had to use D-Link Powerline units to connect the 714 to the 820L because I couldn't lay an ethernet cable that far through the house. That third network works too.

But when I activate the two Powerlink adapters the WiFi network from the 820L drops into LImited connectablity state, making that network useless. When I disconnect the the Powerlines, that network goes back into a full connection state.

The routers do not share the same channels. I am lost at this point.

Solution
What it all came down to was that merely connecting a DLINK DHP303 Powerline adapter to a LAN port on the Dir-820L killed the 820's Wi-Fi. It switched from Connected to LImited, which made that network useless. I didn't even need to complete the connection by turning on the other DHP-303. Just plugging in the first caused the problem.

So, I am now assuming the DHP-303 is not compatible with the 820L, even though Dlink says that the 820L is backwards compatible with all other devices. Of course, it might still be that there is some parameter in the 820L that I set up wrong but I doubt that. After all, everything works if I connect the routers using an Ethernet cable rather than a DHP-303.

The final workaround was easy. I connected the...

The final workaround was easy. I connected the DHP303 to the LAN port of the slave Dir-655 (which itself is connected to the 820 by an Ethernet cable). Everything worked fine. The 655's network did not go into LImited mode. The 820's network stayed connected too. Indeed, all 3 networks from all 3 routers hummed along happily.

The DHP-303 was obsoleted by DLINK in 2012. Perhaps new Powerlink models might work with the 820. But I now have no need to pursue that expensive option.

One last interesting point.

I reversed the routers, making the Dir-655 the Main Router and the Dir-820L just an AP. I then plugged the DHP-303 into a LAN port on the Dir-655 to see if the 655's Wi-Fi network would slip from Connected to Limited status. It did not!
However, the 820's network still did, and it returned to Connected state when the DHP-303 was removed from the 655.

In other words, just having the DHP-303 connected anywhere in the daisy-chained series of routers was enough to stop the 820L's own Wi-Fi network from functioning. Wow!
