Ok main reason to even ask this question is because of the new change of Display port 1.3........
I was thinking if Titan Black supported the Display port 1.3 wouldn't it have been more future proof for future 8k monitors?
I am confused to choose for the display ports! I am a Gamer and a 3D model/rendering student....so I think titan is good for the rendering part but when I see the display port damn...I have to buy again?

More about : gtx 980 sli gtx titan black

Nothing out now or within the next year will be able to play games at 8k properly.

I would choose 980 SLI over titan black, and thats without seeing the proper 980 reviews yet.

it would be too old or too slow for 8k. 4k is hard enough for todays' gpu

Any card will be obsolete buy the time 8k, if it ever does, comes around. A pare of gtx 970's or 980's should be enough for 4k gaming. Not a guaranty, because the specs and benches aren't official yet, but I'm pretty sure about it.

also if some of the leaks are correct, the compute power of the new maxwell cards are supposed to be ridiculously fast compared to the 7 series cards, literally twice as fast.

GTX titan Black has about 6gb and gtx 980 about 4gb so it does bother me a bit of wat nvidia is thinking with the ports they gave....with such low vrams!

Where are the leaks showing them twice as fast?

Yea Titan black isn't and amazing card in itself compared to what 980's would be because Titan black compared to a 780ti for gaming isn't a huge difference. Rendering would be a different story but if you wanted a render card and gaming card the Titan z would be good but the price is dumb. On that level you would be better off with a 295x2.

Well I do work on 3d and Gaming so was really curios on the ports for my future works.......980 is indeed good but why they gave such a low Vram of 4gb?

Thew 980 will come with 8Gb a little later also.

But its not a replacement for the Titan Black or 780 Ti, there will be the big maxwell chip that will come out sometime next near that will be the true upgrade for that. This is the equivalent of the GTX 680/770 GK104 chip.

The 980 is a gaming card that's why 4gb because there isn't a need for more than 4gb for gaming really. Rendering more VRAM would be better but gaming that high of VRAM isn't needed.

If I only had the money :p  I got only the money to buy the Titan Black or 2 pir of 980.....I am just waiting for the GTX 980 to reveal their spec and performance in the rendering..... in 1st i was really up to buy the titan black but I am still waiting to know the power of maxwell.

what should i do :/  well I just bought my rig not too long ago
My Current Specs are:
Processor: Intel Core i7 4960X Overck .
Cooler: Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler.
Ram: 32GB(8gbx4pcs) DDR3 G.Skills 2400MHZ QUAD Channel XMP mode.
Mobo: ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition. (updated to Bios 801_Beta)
PSU: Corsair TX 850W Enthusiast Series V1.
GPU: Runnin a GTX560Ti for now gonna buy GTX titan or somethin.....
HDDs: Seagate Barracuda 500 GB + Seagate Barracuda 1TB + Western Digital 2TB Green.
Case: Cooler Master Stryker White.

Now problem is the GTX 560ti died and am using a GT240 Old GPU :( :sarcastic:  , well will january will be a good date to buy the gpu? or buy the titan for its rendering performance? I can stay with 4k...with display port 1.2 but I do also wanna try the 8k for future.....:??:

The leaks thats I have been reading are over at overclock.net, I don't feel like searching through 100 pages again, sorry.

4k isn't going to use more than 4gb of vram, plenti of people are at 4k with 780ti's with 3gb of vram. and like I said the res you're worried about(8k) isn't out yet. You'll want a gpu up grade by then.

How about the performance when I render a animation on a 4K or 5K in Maya 2014-15? any ideas?

Actually, come to think of it, in Maya you may want higher vram. not because of the speed but rather the size for buffering. I would really llike to know why GPU makers can't allow for two cards to utilize all the vram as a team. In stead of two cards at 4gb working as 4gb instead of 8.

Based on Maya, my recommendation would be wait for some official benchmarks with the new cards. If that doesn't fit your 3d modeling needs, maybe pickup a pair of 6 gb 780ti's.

Do your research, 3d modeling isn't my strong suite, but I know a little. At the very least, the new cards should bring some prices down. The announcement is in a few days.

the way i see it 4gb Vram has crippled the demand for gtx 980 and 970....... So What I see here is that either I wait for official announcement for the cards or get the 6gb GTX titan black then 4x sli em for future............Damn Nvidia seems buisness all over....why couldn't they make GTx titan black with display port 1.3?
