Hello. I recently formatted both of my hard drives on my custom build pc. I have a 120gb ssd and a 3tb hdd. I had windows installed to my ssd and all the other files were on my hdd. What i wanted to do was completely start fresh on my computer. so i formatted everything and now i am having problems installing windows 7 from the same dvd i used the first time I set up my pc. When it tells me to select the driver to be installed, it says "a required CD/DVD drive is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now." "Note: If windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step." If i close this message and then click "rescan" it says "no device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK." I have the CD from when I originally installed windows inserted and now I get this message. What should I do to fix this problem. please any one with any clue as to how this can be resolved please respond. Thank you.

Hi there.

Might be one of these; http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952951

The CD/DVD drive may not be compatible with Windows 7 or Windows Vista
The CD/DVD media may be damaged or dirty
Your CD/DVD drive may be incompatible with the Microsoft AHCI driver (msahci.sys)

I doubt its the compatible with win7/vista problem but could be dirty sensor or might be different Sata port you're using for the cdrom? If you've changed to AHCI mode for the SSD, its possible your cdrom does not support AHCI. If this is the case, will need to use another 3rd party Sata controller if you have one, should have, most boards have like Intel/AMD as your primary and then Realteck/Asmedia being 3rd party etc (refer to manual which ones) and...

Thanks for the help. Im thinking that it is the dvd drive that is not compatible. Do you think it would work if i removed the contents from the disk and put it on a USB and tried again?

Yea try that, sorry just got up.

You can get official already made iso from http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/

Just use your key and you'll be fine. Search google on how to make the usb bootable.

iv been witing for 10 mins and nothing has happened. first i used iso to usb and then after that i used boot camp on my mac to format the drive and put the iso on there. the iso to usb program booted the iso but would not install it and then after that i tried teh boot camp on and now it only flashes a small line on a black screen. i dont know what to do anymore.

Is Windows there somewhere. If it is use this I know it works http://rufus.akeo.ie/

Put the flash drive in run this make sure the flash drive is selected under drive, because it'll format it.

If the system supports UEFI select GPT under partition scheme. If it doesnt, select MBR for BIOS or UEFI.

Select the ISO. Wait for it to finish. Then change the bootdisk to it in the BIOS save settings, reboot. Boot from it

i did this before but i will try it with the link you provided. thank you for all the help everybody. WE WILL GET WINDOWS WORKING EVENTUALLY!!!

If you tried this before you must have done something wrong. I've used it to install Win7 on a netbook . Since it doesnt have a dvd. And I've put Linux mint on a flash drive and it worked fine

Or the ISO youre using is corrupt / stuffed or something.

And did you get the right ISO?? If your system is 32 bit, you have to get the 32 bit ISO. Since 64 bit wont run on 32 bit

I also tried formating both drives and i believe they are both formatted. i think i have nothing on both of my hard drives. is it possible that i may have messed something up when formating? i went into safe mode and then outside of winows i went into command prompt and formatted both the drives. also when i was formating both the drives i had a problem where i tried formating the C drive(my ssd) and instead it formated my M drive (my hdd) os now i have and when i went to format my c drive we could not find it and then we tried formating E drive and it formatted it. after formating it said that the ssd had close to 120 GB and the hdd hd close to 3 TB.

also im sure i downloaded the 64 bit home premium. i downloaded it from here. http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/

maybe u can find me a better one?

So what hdd do you want to install windows on? The SSD?

If you do, unplug the others for now. You can plug them in after if you can get Windows on the SSD lol

And do you know if the motherboard supports UEFI?? Whats the brand/model of the mobo or system?

Because you have to select the right option in Rufus for the flash drive to boot. If you're using a system with UEFI. And it has to be on the right option in the BIOS

Are you positive that your system supports 64 bit and that you want Home premium. Try this link

ok first of thank you thank you thank you. i didnt know u had to change settings in rufus. and i have the disc case beside me. this is strait from my reciept email. its my OS http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5213932&CatId=4622

also this is my MOBO from my reciept http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8041585&tab=7&cm_mmc=Email-_-WebletMain-_-CANLET-_-03order&SRCCODE=CANLET&utm_source=EML&utm_medium=main&utm_campaign=CANLET

Ok so since its socket 1150, I would say it does support UEFI.

So run Rufus again. Under Partition scheme put it on GPT partition scheme. It needs to be on this option for UEFI systems. Put the flash drive in make sure you select the flash drive under drive. Then add the ISO to the link I posted

Unless you disable secureboot and UEFI in the BIOS (and change it to legacy mode).

But, if you do this you cant change it back to UEFI mode after windows has been installed. I'm pretty sure the hard drive wont boot

Also make sure UEFI / secureboot are enabled in the BIOS. Both options should be there
