I currently only have one Ethernet port, but I want to have two things (Desktop & Console) hooked up to LAN. Would a network switch be ideal for my situation, and would it reduce the speed of the internet?

I was thinking of this switch: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

A switch is exactly what you need, that is its purpose.

That netgear is a good switch, in reality though any gigabit switch from trendnet or tp-link is fine, you dont have to buy a $30 switch.

You will not notice any slowdown by using a switch, espically since the switch is way ahead of your internet connection in speed.
