It's my first time building a computer and I followed the Newegg video on building a new pc. I've got everything connected but when I hit the power button, the fans intermittently spin, but nothing shows up on my screen. I don't have any speakers, so I can't tell if there is a beep.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Also I've plugged the VGA cable from my monitor into the MB input and the graphics card input, and still nothing on the screen.

I would pick up a motherboard speaker anyway just for future troubleshooting purposes, but refer back to your user guide and confirm that all of the cables are plugged in (and into the correct place) for myself my computer did not POST simply because I plugged the CPU fan into the chassis fan header. It could also be a problem with your VGA cable/monitor so make sure to confirm this as well.

Please make sure that you've plugged in 4/8 pin CPU power connector (EPS) and 24 pin motherboard power connector correctly. Also is your PSU fan spinning?

For beeps you can use mobo speaker (check its guide)

Motherboard should have a small speaker on it already, or one included you plug into it.

Just google: motherboard speaker

You'll see.

We have a troubleshooting checklist in the stickies at the top of the forum for this type of problem. Perform all the steps in the checklist and it will help you determine what's causing the problem. There's also a link to the checklist in my signature.

I know exactly two resons why it won't boot. Obviously because you are not retarded, you plugged in all the power cables. Your two reasons are 1. Bad psu or motherboard (unlikely). 2. Your CMOS jumper cap is on the wrong two pins. This happened to me first build. Instructions on resetting the CMOS would be in your motherboard manual. Hope this helps.
