Did my SSD fail?

I get the "Reboot and select proper boot device" message upon boot.
My computer worked last night. No bios updates or drivers installed for at least 2 months.

I have only one drive. An ssd. It's about 2 years old. No other drive has ever been connected.

I replaced the power supply about a month ago (nothing was wrong with the first one).

I checked the power connection to the drive, changing sata ports, and changing the sata cable.

I tried changing sata mode from ahci to ide, as well as all variants of the settings for smart status check, fast boot, etc. There is only one boot device option. I don't even have a cd/dvd drive.

I can boot fine to a bootable usb.

System repair gives the error that my drive is locked. Diskpart, list disk, select disk 0, list partition gives the message "There are no partitions on this disk to show".

When I reformatted the disk about 2 months ago, I definitely remember there being primary, recovery, and system reserve partitions.

I don't want to try reformatting it (which might work if it's just an error in Windows boot file location or something) because there are a few documents that I would miss that hadn't been backed up yet. But it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Any insight, advice, or diagnostic questions would be appreciated.

Did you do the Windows installation? Which Windows?

While your SSD could have failed, I think it more likely that it is a Windows issue. Since you cannot do a repair, the next step that still would save your documents (and programs) is a repair installation. HERE is a guide for Windows 7 and HERE is a guide for Windows 8. This is a step short of a full clean re-install and if it works you only need to redo all your Windows updates. Programs and data should be intact.

If that doesn't work, before you give up on the drive do a secure erase to see if you can get it working prior to a clean install.
